Mr. Skjold is outside counsel for a number of rapidly growing small to middle-
market companies. He regularly represents them on a wide array of issues, including general corporate and securities matters, private financings, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate finance. Ben also assists high-worth individuals in succession planning and investment matters.
Ben’s financial industry background brings a sophisticated understanding of
financial institutions and transactions to his practice. He has represented national banks, regional banks, and credit unions. Prior to his admission to the bar, Ben previously held Series 7 and Series 63 Securities Licenses and worked on the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade.
Ben also has extensive commercial litigation experience, which enables him to approach business and transactional challenges from multiple perspectives. He has tried 22 cases to a jury verdict and over 100 arbitrations to a final decision. While he no longer actively litigates matters, he regularly supervises commercial litigation, FINRA arbitrations, securities litigation, and shareholder disputes for his clients while acting as outside general counsel.
Additionally, Ben is active in the business world. Not only did he found a
successful boutique business law firm, he subsequently sold that firm to a large national firm.
Ben is one of the founders of Corporate Law Partners, which has a national reach with its experienced lawyers located in Chicago and Minneapolis. Further, Ben is an active advisory board member for a number of companies in the upper Midwest.
He has been an active member of legal, financial, and securities industry groups, including the National Society of Compliance Professionals (NSCP), the Minnesota Bankers Association, and the Defense Research Institute (DRI), where he served as Vice-Chair of the Financial Advisory Services Specialized Litigation Group.
Ben regularly speaks and writes on topics ranging from corporate, banking, and securities issues to law firm management strategies and technology issues. He authored the 3rd edition of Legal Aspects of Doing Business in North America and the series “Taking Stock with Ben Skjold” on securities litigation for Thomson Reuters News & Insight.
Ben is an active member of the community. He sits on the governance board of the Capistrant Parkinsons Foundation. He is a member of the Union League Club of Chicago and Midland Hills Country Club (St. Paul, MN).
Ben earned his Juris Doctor Degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law at Illinois Institute of Technology and has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota.
